Mosaic Impressionism is an optical illusion technique that meticulously blends science and art. In this style the artist takes advantage of the way our brains recognize faces and creates a specific array of tonal values, lights and shadows to create recognizable images. When viewed up close, these paintings appear to be colorful abstracts; however, when viewed from a distance, or by squinting the eyes a hidden image is revealed. For over 10 years, One has been working with Ink to create his sketches and drawings. Preparatory drawings as well as final drawings are usually created in ink from start to finish, without the use of pencils or erasers. It takes great mastery of the technique because ink is an unforgiving medium. The elegant strokes used in this technique are so subtle and precise, that people often have difficulty believing them to be ink instead of graphite. The shadows are so refined that the individual ink strokes are difficult to see. Here is a selection of these drawings.
