The Janurary 2009 issue of Orlando Home & Leisure
Magazine features a fascinating article regarding One's optical illussion
work. You can read an excerpt below:
Double Vision
There’s more to Juan Sepúlveda’s
art than meets the eye.
By Josh Garrick
Your first impression of a
Juan Sepúlveda’s paintings will depend on where you’re standing. Up close,
the blocks of color create an abstract work. But back away and
recognizable images take shape as the color blocks blend together.
Admitting to a life-long
fascination with optical illusion, Sepúlveda explains: “Before I ever
picked up a paintbrush, I was already delving into the world of optical
illusions. In college, I did an investigation into the history of optical
illusions, and I can say that was an important crossroad in my life. The
following semester, I selected an introductory painting class. Even in the
first weeks of the class, I was already applying some of the things I had
learned about illusion and depth perception into this medium. Once I felt
comfortable with the knowledge I had about how human vision works, I
started experimenting with large blocks of color.”

incredible success. The support from galleries and collectors surpassed
our expectations. The Mosaic Impressionism paintings were a show stopper
among the visitors. Here are a few photographs from the event. |
